Jim Murphy resigns! The unions should fight in the Labour Party

Following a very close vote of confidence at the Scottish Labour Party executive (14-17), ultra-Blairite Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy has resigned. (See the Guardian report here.)

When Murphy left he attacked Unite the Union leader Len McCluskey and advocated changing SLP structures to reduce union influence.

Unite, ASLEF and the others who pushed for Murphy to go were right. The lesson is that the unions should stop doing what they’ve done for years, and start fighting consistently for union influence and pro-working class policies in the Labour Party.

We hope there will be a left candidate standing for Scottish Labour leader. More information soon.
