SCLV model motions for union branches and Labour Parties

Below are two model motions, for union branches and for Labour Party organisations.

SOCIALIST CAMPAIGN FOR A LABOUR VICTORY: MOTION FOR UNION BRANCHES

Another Tory government would be a disaster. We want a Labour victory in the general election.

However, Labour’s current policies do not serve working-class interests. We reject the idea that our class should pay for the capitalist crisis through increased inequality, lower pay, insecurity, workplace stress and cuts. We should fight back, demanding taxation of the rich, and public ownership/democratic control of the banks and financial sector, to reverse austerity and guarantee decent jobs, services and homes for all.

We want a government which serves the working class as the current government serves the rich.

We want an end to low pay, job insecurity and lack of workplace and union rights. We want a Living Wage for all, real terms pay rises, zero hours contracts banned and repeal of the anti-union laws.

We want an end to privatisation and expanded public ownership, starting with the NHS and other services, Royal Mail and the railways. We want council houses built. We want free education.

We want an end to the scapegoating of migrants and people on benefits. The rich are to blame for social problems, not our brothers and sisters from other countries and who are out of work or disabled. We support freedom of movement and equal rights for all. We want a decent benefits system.

While advocating a Labour victory in the general election, we will campaign around these kind of demands. We call on our union, at every level, to use the opportunity to do the same, including by campaigning for Labour to changes its policies. We will invite a speaker from the Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory, which is organising around these kinds of demands, and donate £_ to the campaign in return for materials.
